Salt and Light Soap..?

Pursuing a path of entrepreneurship in Soap Making has to be - hands down - one of the more random ideas I've had. It all started with a social media post and a DIY soap project gone wrong. Now look where we are!

After a few months of trying my hand in soap making, I needed a reason to keep the hobby going. As much as I love to give gifts, the soap bars were starting to pile up around the house and the ingredients were getting expensive! A few people had mentioned the idea of starting a business to me. I chewed on the idea for a few weeks and finally decided to give it a fair shot. I decided to follow the advice from a friend who’d just started her own small business: set a timeline and give it 100%, if it flops then at least you can walk away knowing you gave it your all.

I knew that if I were to start my own small business, I would want to make sure to glorify God through all of it. In the Bible, the book of Matthew contains many accounts of Jesus’s life and His many teachings. Matthew Chapter 5 stood out for me during the beginning of my business start-up. Specifically Verses 13-16: “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Further, in 1 Peter 4:10-11, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

In short, it’s very important to me that the work I do is all for the glory of God, the only way this business will thrive is if He allows it to. I cannot wait to see what He will do! I pray over the soap that it may bless the person receiving it, I pray for each order that is placed, and over each craft fair or farmers market I will do.

God made the Earth beautiful and full of wonderful resources. My goal is to keep my soaps as natural as possible and use ingredients that are skin-loving and healthy. While the majority of my soaps will be made with natural ingredients and pure essential oils, that doesn’t mean I won’t have a bit of creative fun. Occasionally my bars may contain fragrance oils and color additives, all of which will have been skin-tested and safe for use in soap. I will always disclose what goes into my bars so you can find the soap that’s right for you! :)
